A native of New Jersey, Erica Ortiz brings her Puerto Rican heritage and broadcast background in both English and Spanish-language, to produce in-depth programming for Hispanics Today®.
Erica’s personal and professional interest in giving a human face to key issues affecting Latinos, has provided viewers nation-wide fresh and modern stories.
In addition to her role as Host for Hispanics Today, Erica also lends her expertise behind the scenes as Coordinating Producer. She packaged the show’s first debate panel format focusing on key issues such as immigration.
Erica began her television career in local news in Philadelphia. First, for the morning news at FOX 29 WTXF-TV’s “Good Day Philadelphia,” and then for the evening news shows at NBC10 WCAU-TV, occasionally contributing to the investigative unit as a researcher.
Erica moved into Spanish-language television, as an associate producer for “Inside the NFL en Espanol” at HBO in New York and eventually, Univision 65 WUVP-TV in Philadelphia, where she handled marketing & communications for the local news station.
Erica also has a strong background in public relations, generating national and international media coverage for major sporting events across the country. Erica served a variety of clients including: Main Events, TVKO, and UFC. She generated publicity for Latino boxing champions; Felix “Tito” Trinidad, Marco Antonio Barrera, Fernando Vargas and UFC Champion, Tito Ortiz.
In 2007, Erica served the prestigious honor of mistress of ceremonies for the 8th annual Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF)’s Washington, DC Awards Dinner.
Erica earned a bachelor’s degree in Communications and a master’s degree in Corporate Public Relations from Rowan University in New Jersey.
Erica is a proud member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
She currently resides in Washington, DC.
